Idigbo-Emeri
A form of idigbo and a durable stable hardwood from Ghana. It should not be confused with Framire from other parts of West Africa, which is prone to brittle-heart, thunder-shake and tension wood. Emeri requires care in machining due to the interlocked grain structure, and all forms of Idigbo are prone to leach a yellow dye when wet, so require a leachresistant primer when being painted. Overall, a good low-cost general-purpose timber which has been used as an Oak substitute although softer and lighter than Oak. Its natural colour is yellow.
