Storage Sheds
At the heart of the Sykes Timber yard are our main storage sheds, purpose-designed to house the UK’s most varied and carefully managed timber stocks. Beneath cover, our extensive range of hardwood and softwood species is stored neatley and is clearly identified — ensuring stability, consistency, and detailed selection.
Office building
The Sykes Timber offices and specification centre are where projects are talked through and decisions are made. Customers can discuss jobs over the phone or in person, working with the team to go through specifications, timber choices, and practical details to make sure the best outcome is achieved.
Alongside this, the offices include staff welfare facilities and an education space used for training and development. This supports the people behind the business and reflects how Sykes works day to day — combining experience, clear communication, and long-term relationships with customers.
Machining Sheds
Our machining sheds are set up to handle timber with precision and purpose, supporting everything from planing, moulding, and jointing through to more specialist processes.
We also produce our own constructional veneers in-house, allowing us to maximise yield and offer flexible solutions across a wide range of specifications. Alongside this, we carry out the machining of large section timber with accuracy and efficiency.
It is a practical, well-considered setup—designed to ensure the timber we supply is not only well sourced, but properly prepared for its intended use.
Wood Store
The Sykes Wood Store offers a unique opportunity to purchase offcuts and smaller sections from our extensive timber stocks. Drawn from more than 80 species of hardwood and softwood, the Wood Store contains an ever-changing selection of boards and pieces that arise naturally from the processing and selection of larger orders.
Each piece is clearly measured and priced, allowing customers to browse and select exactly what they need
Kilns
The Sykes Timber kilns are used selectively, alongside a strong emphasis on air drying. Many species are air dried all the way down, allowing timber to season naturally over time, which we value for the long-term stability and overall wellbeing of the material.
Where required for certain species or end uses, kiln drying is introduced to bring timber to a specific moisture content. This is done carefully and to suit the timber, ensuring it remains stable, workable, and fit for purpose rather than over-processed
