African Mahogany
A traditional ‘Mahogany’ from West Africa, closely related to the ‘True’ Mahoganies in genus Swietenia and the closest timber in appearance to Swietenia. Pinkish brown to reddish brown in colour, African Mahogany often has interlocked grain on radially cut faces, so care is required when machining. Medium textured, and relatively light weight, African Mahogany is long established as a boat building timber and is also suitable for high class joinery and furniture.
