Sitka Spruce
A native of the coastal region in western North America from Alaska down to Northern California. Sitka Spruce is a large tree and can produce long clean lengths of straight grained timber. Sitka Spruce has a very high strength to weight ratio (greater than steel), so is favoured for mast and spar work in boatbuilding, and for aircraft work. It is also a superb tone wood and when quarter sawn often used for musical instruments.
