Hemlock
A slow grown, timber often with tightly packed growth rings, Hemlock is stable and easily machined. The texture is uneven due to the earlywood being much softer than the latewood, so care is needed when sanding. Glues, paints and finishes well. Much used for stair newel posts, it is an excellent and low-cost timber ideal for internal joinery.
