Steamed Beech
Very much a utility wood for internal wood-ware, furniture, cabinetry and turned items. European Beech is a hard timber that machines well, bends excellently and finishes and paints well, but stains patchily. The timber is light pinkish brown due to the steaming process. Quarter sawn surfaces show a pronounced ray fleck. Beech logs often have a redcoloured ‘kern’ around the heart of the log, which is largely selected out in ’Superior grade’ timber.
